Automated Product Development: User-Centric Automatic Onion Peeler Machine

Driven by a consumer needs survey of 50 culinary practitioners, the project executed Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and House of Quality (HOQ) matrices to rigorously map user statements into target specifications, identifying product weight and material selection as the highest engineering priorities. Through a systematic five-step concept generation process evaluating 16 distinct architectural combinations, a vertical-oriented wet peeling design utilizing 0.8 mm aluminum was selected through concept screening and scoring matrices. The alpha milestone prototype successfully delivered a lightweight, modular, food-grade solution with a cost of goods sold (COGS) of Rp 290,000 and a highly competitive retail price point of Rp 350,000, capturing an exceptional 80% positive purchase intent during conceptual market testing.
